Kindly read this warning before trying a hard reset.
Sometime after getting my new phone I tried to transfer the content from my old phone to my new phone. I used bluetooth to transfer the contents mostly contacts, images and music files.
The trouble with Nokia phones is that the files transferred by bluetooth go to the inbox and you then need to open the file and save it. It can be really annoying if you have to transfer a lot of files. I had more than 100 files just in contacts. So I just saved the contacts and left the music files and some images for another day. The icon for new messages was still being displayed on the home screen which was fine as I knew what was pending.
But when I tried to save the music files after a few days I was able to save them except for 4 files. And the new messages icon continued to appear on the home screen. I tried to delete the message but one of the songs gave an error message "file already in use". Strange because the songs that were stuck in those 4 bluetooth messages did not appear on the Music Player or the File Manager. I tried marking them all and deleting them but that had no effect. I tried opening the messages with Active File Manager but that was taking a long time to open the messaging folder and the stuck bluetooth messages did not appear there.
I searched the online forums and I read somewhere that doing a reset settings or master reset did not work for them and the only option was to reflash the phone. I read something about UDP(User Data Protection) that would save your contacts, messages and other personal info even in case of a master reset. I was stuck, cos I would have to send my phone away and I didn't want to do that.
I tried some other forums that had steps to access the messaging with apps like Xplore or FExplorer but that did not work with this Nokia N79. The file system on the Nokia N79 is different from other phones that the people claimed to have been able to access messages.
I resigned and was just using the basic functions of the phone. Now even if I added new songs they would not appear in the Music Player. On trying to refresh the Music Library it would be stuck searching for new content for several minutes and not add any of the new songs. But yesterday I clicked a few photos and they did not display in the gallery. Now that was the limit. I really need to see and show others the pictures I click easily, navigating via the file manager is not acceptable, especially considering how deply nested the photos are.
So yesterday I finally threw caution to the wind and tried a Factory Reset. The phone restarted And guess what nothing happened, the stuck bluetooth messages were still there. I was disappointed. I searched online for the code for a hard reset (its *#7370#) and after saying a little prayer I tried that code. And I was lucky on Christmas Eve. The messages were finally deleted. Yes. I tried clicking a few photos and they appeared in gallery straight away, however the older photos don't appear under captured but they still appear in all photos and videos (just different sections in the gallery on the Nokia N79).
The music player is still affected though. Even if I leave the Refresh Library search running for several minutes it does not detect the new files that I've added. Does anyone know how to fix this?
