Essential Symbian Software

Recently one of Online friend has bought a new Symbian phone, yes I'm referring to you Dennis (H82typ).

When you buy a new phone with a new phone with a new OS you've on the look out for useful software to make the most of your new gadget. So I've compiled this list of must have free application for a symbian device (S60 v3) so newbies won't have to go searching and can enjoy their new phone. Also these are some of the tools I personally use on my phone everyday while I make my posts here.

Opera Mini - The ultimate mobile browser. A must have for any handset.

Opera Mobile - A complete mobile browser (needs a lot of ram though)

UC BROWSER (UCWEB) - A fantastic download manager.

X-Plore - This one's a shareware really, but you can use it for free with a pop up to register the software at the start up and also when exiting the software. I love it because it lets you easily access files, even zip files, without extracting them.

Active File - I love the 2 pane interface, very useful when moving files. [link to developer's website]

JBAK Taskman - An advanced taskmanager to replace the one you get when you long press the menu button. I rarely have to visit the applications folder after installing this, every application is easily accessible by pressing the # key and typing a few letters from the application name. It also displays the memory status, usefull to keep a tab on the ram being used by a particular application.

Dedit - This is a fantastic notepad utility, its what I use to write my posts.

Screenshot - A useful tool to show the world when some program or website isn't working as it should and its only happening to you. As they say seeing is believing. Also has other uses.

Zip Manager - It should be installed on your S60 v3 by default, just a handy link in case it isn't.

Google Maps - Don't every get lost again. [Mobile link]
